MLS, Fox Soccer Reach One-Year Extension Of TV Rights Deal

MLS and Fox Soccer Friday announced that they have reached a one-year extension for the network’s national broadcast rights agreement. Fox Soccer will broadcast up to 31 regular-season games, plus three MLS Cup playoff matches, including a conference final. The package includes 15 games on Major League Soccer and FOX Soccer announced that they have extended the network’s national broadcast rights agreement for one year. The soccer-only channel will broadcast up to 31 regular-season games, plus three exclusive MLS Cup Playoff matches.

“FOX Soccer has been a tremendous partner for MLS for many
years and we are very happy that we have been able to extend
the relationship. Through both its news coverage and its
extensive schedule of MLS games, Fox Soccer allows MLS fans
across the country to follow their club as well as their rivals.”
                                            – Mark Abbott, MLS President

MLS wanted Fox Soccer Channel to renew their existing deal at $20 million per year. Instead, Fox Soccer Channel reportedly reached a deal worth $6.25 million. The pair’s previous deal was worth just $3 million.  Not a bad increase, even if Major League Soccer is disappointed.
