Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) announced today the 2012 season will be suspended.
The decision is the result of pending legal issues and the challenges that the League will face due to a dispute with a former owner.
“This was a very difficult decision, but one we as owners feel is the best business decision for the League at this time,” said Sky Blue FC Owner Thomas Hofstetter.
WPS has established its plans to return to play in 2013, and the league’s five owners of thexisting teams will remain active throughout the current year. The current WPS clubs include the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Philadelphia Independence, Sky Blue FC and Western New York Flash.
