Benitez Died of Heart Failure (Bloomberg)

First an foremost, this is not business related.  This is a brief tribute to Ecuadorian professional soccer player Christian “Chucho” Benitez.  Benitez graced the colors of Santos Laguna, Club America, Birmingham City, El Nacional and most recently El Jaish Sports Club in Qatar.  He died after suffering from a heart failure after his debut game for El Jaish.  Rest in Peace

Columbus Crew Sold By Hunt Sports Group For Record $68 Million (Forbes)

Hunt Sports Group has sold both the Columbus Crew franchise and stadium for a total of $68 million setting a new record for the sale of  current existing team previously set by DC United last year.

Garber Announces Plans To Expand MLS to 24 by 2020 (Business of Soccer)

During the MLS All Star game against AS Roma in Kansas City, Don Garber took the opportunity to announce that there were plans to make MLS the largest professional league in the world by expanding to 24 teams by 2020.

Bayern Munich President Hoeness Charged With Tax Evasion (Bloomberg)

Following the leak and eventual announcement of an investigation into Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness’ Swiss Bank account, he has been officially charged with tax evasion by German prosecutors.

Event branding specialists ICON have picked up the contract from FIFA to provide the signage program for next year’s World Cup in Brazil after performing a similar service for the London Olympics.
