Intel Breaks the Mold With Barcelona Inside Shirt Sponsorship (Business of Soccer)

Last week technology giant Intel announced it would be teaming up with one of the elite clubs in world football, F.C. Barcelona, in a sponsorship deal that most had to read twice when they were perusing the details of the deal. Intel is now the official technology partner of Barcelona, and will have its logo placed on the inside of the team’s shirts – that’s right, the inside of the shirt.

Notre Dame claimed its first NCAA men’s soccer championship on Sunday evening, defeating the University of Maryland 2-1 at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.  And while Notre Dame’s goals in each of the first and second halves were enough to overcome Patrick Mullins’s opening goal for Maryland in the first half, the talking points on the way back to College Park for Maryland may be two non-calls by referee (and MLS referee of the year) Hilario Grajeda.

According to multiple reports in the French media, German car manufacturer Volkswagen has signed sponsorship deal with the French Football Federation (FFF).

The deal, which is being billed as a five-year agreement worth around €4 million annually, will kick in next year, and sees Volkswagen replace French automotive brand Citroën as the official car of the governing body of French soccer.

Tottenham Hotspur coach Andre Villas-Boas left the Premier League soccer club a day after a 5-0 home loss to Liverpool, its worst home defeat this century.

Villas-Boas, 36, was halfway through his three-year contract but yesterday’s result, which follows a 6-0 defeat by Manchester City last month, prompted Tottenham’s board to call an emergency meeting.
