At the very least since hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on reddit, if not further back, a primary goal of the Colorado Rapids organization has been to secure a jersey sponsorship. So much so that they enlisted Denver-based Impression Sports & Entertainment to help bring a deal home.
That goal, as announced yesterday, has officially been met with the Colorado Rapids signing a 5 year agreement with Ciao Telecom, a global telecom company that offers mobile devices and corresponding plans as well as internet security and IT consulting. Ciao is looking to expand their “product line, especially relating to the fan experience at sports venues” and are looking forward to working with the Rapids and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment LLC owned by sports mogul Stan Kroenke.
Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Kroenke Sports & Entertainment Tom Philand had this to say about the deal:
“This is a momentous day for the Rapids, and to have an international company such as Ciao come on board and become our very first shirt sponsor speaks to the continued growth and relevance of this franchise. We are proud to be associated with Ciao and we look forward to being such a vital part of their launch strategy within the United States.”
The landmark partnership and Philand stated is the first ever jersey sponsor in the Colorado Rapids history and involves the Ciao logo appearing on the Home and Away jersey, training and traveling gear and will be included on signage around the Rapids’ stadium, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
While the exact amount of money involved in the partnership was not made public it is the largest of Rapids’ partnerships with the announcement on Impression Sports & Entertainment’s website noting that the deal would bring in “well over $10 million of additional revenue for the club.”
The logo will debut on Rapids jerseys tomorrow, May 3rd as they host the LA Galaxy at 9PM EST, 7PM MT. Altitude TV will show the game live that will includes with a 30-minute pregame show featuring an interview from Richard Fleming with Hinchey and Pinkston about the new partnership.
